Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of hosting a Viking TV episode featuring the beautiful city of Duluth, MN. As a port visited by Viking’s Expedition Ships on the Great Lakes, our journey took us through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks and hidden gems, showcasing the rich history and stunning natural beauty that Duluth has to offer.

Our adventure began at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, where we delved into the rich history of the region’s railroads. The museum’s impressive collection of vintage locomotives and railroad memorabilia provided a fascinating glimpse into the past and the vital role railroads played in the development of Duluth.

For a unique perspective, we took to the skies on a thrilling helicopter ride over Duluth. The aerial views of the city, Lake Superior, and the surrounding landscapes were breathtaking and gave us a new appreciation for the area’s natural beauty and architectural landmarks.

No trip to Duluth would be complete without visiting Split Rock Lighthouse. Perched on a cliff overlooking Lake Superior, this historic lighthouse offered stunning views and a fascinating history. We learned about the lighthouse’s construction and the shipwrecks that necessitated its creation.

Next, we headed to Gooseberry Falls State Park, where we explored the picturesque trails and admired the cascading waterfalls. The park’s natural beauty and serene atmosphere made it a perfect spot for relaxation and photos.

Our accommodation for the trip was the Grand Superior Lodge, a charming retreat nestled along the shores of Lake Superior. The lodge’s cozy atmosphere and stunning lake views provided the perfect base for our Duluth adventure.

We visited the Glensheen Mansion, a beautifully preserved historic estate that offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the early 20th century. The mansion’s stunning interiors and lush gardens were a highlight of our trip.

Canal Park is a vibrant hub of activity in Duluth, and we spent some time exploring its many attractions. The Aerial Lift Bridge, an engineering marvel, connects the city to Park Point and provides a fascinating spectacle as massive ships pass underneath.

We indulged in some of Duluth’s best culinary offerings at Fitger’s Hotel and Northern Waters Smokehaus. The flavors were rich and unique, showcasing the best of the region’s culinary traditions.

Our journey also took us to the new Craft District in Lincoln Park, where we experienced the local flavors and vibrant atmosphere of this up-and-coming area. The district’s eclectic mix of breweries, eateries, and artisan shops made it a delightful addition to our itinerary.
